Michel and Marie Nehme are growers of some of the best Botrytis affected Semillon in Australia. Their 30-year-old vineyard situated in the heart of the Riverina at Yenda is meticulously kept. Punt Road’s relationship with the Nehme Family has been longstanding and we consider it an honour to make this wine from such a highly regarded vineyard, albeit in limited quantities.
In 2014 the Riverina followed established patterns with a dry winter, early spring, and hot summer. The botrytis affected fruit was picked 26th of April.
The fruit was gently whole bunch pressed before the juice was returned to soak with the skins for 12 hours. Prior to fermentation the juice was cold settled and racked. Fermentation was in stainless steel with the final stages in seasoned French oak barrels. The wine spent 6 months in barrel prior to bottling.
The Punt Road 2014 Botrytis Semillon is a luscious wine, displaying a rich golden colour. It has lifted aromas of cumquat, citrus peel and spices. The palate is bright and fine with flavours of orange and apricot marmalade. Fresh acidity and a clean finish has become the hallmark of the Punt Road Botrytis Semillon. It can be matched to a wide range of desserts or cheeses.
This wine will also reward careful medium term cellaring.
