Born of a love of nature, doing things the slow way and a shared dream, Bobar has a sense of what is old is new is old again. Grapes are perfect to make wine just the way they are, nothing added and nothing taken away.

The first vintage of Bobar in 2010 followed a decade of talking, dreaming and scheming. In 2007 we sold the car, burnt the furniture and went to France for a year or two. On this trip we discovered natural wine and the beautiful souls who make it. It clarified a way of thinking about wine that we’d sensed but had never been able to articulate before. We partied at a bar called Le Bô Bar in Bordeaux and the whole puzzle was complete. When we returned home we were going to make Bobar.

Home is Yarra Glen, a town that the Yarra River lazily slides through on the western side of the Yarra Valley at the base of the precipitous Christmas Hills range. The vineyards where our wines are grown are secreted into the hills to the west and the Steels Creek and Dixons Creek valleys to the north of the township.

The Bobar wines are made simply but with precision, intent and craft. They are natural wines without chicanery, thumping or whirring and are an unbridled expression of this part of the Yarra Valley’s unique confluence of climate and terrain. Bobar wines are made with love, passion and soul.
